Biography

Sarah Cain (b. 1979) lives and works in Los Angeles, CA. Cain received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2001 from The San Francisco Art Institute in San Francisco, CA. She then received a Masters of Fine Art degree in 2006 from the University of California at Berkeley, CA.

 

Cain is a recipient of the 2011 Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant; the 2008 Durfee Grant; the 2007 Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant; and the 2006 SECA Art Award, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.

 

Cain has had solo exhibitions at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (2017); The Aspen Art Museum (2017-2018); Contemporary Art Museum Raleigh, North Carolina (2015); and the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, California (2015). In addition, her work has been included in several recent museum group exhibitions including Variations: Conversations in and around Abstract Painting, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, California (2014); Now-ism: Abstraction Today, PizzutiCollection, Ohio (2014); Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery, New York (2014);  Outside The Lines, Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, Texas (2013); Made in LA, The Hammer Museum (2012); Gold, Imperial Belvedere Palace Museum, Austria (2012), and Fifty Years of Bay Area Art, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (2011).
